Privacy Policy
Effective date: April 30, 2026
Operator: EteDrop (“we”, “us”, “our”) — https://etedrop.com
This Privacy Policy describes how we handle information when you use the EteDrop applications, related services, and our website. By using EteDrop, you agree to this policy.
1. Summary
EteDrop is built for fast file transfer and sharing. We aim to collect as little data as possible. We do not sell your personal information. File contents are not stored long-term on our servers for normal transfers; signaling and coordination use temporary server-side state as described below.
2. Information we collect
2.1 When you use the EteDrop app
- Device and session identifiers — For example, a device identifier and short-lived pairing or session codes so our signaling service can connect sender and receiver (including WebRTC where used).
- Device name — If you set or we display a device name for discovery or transfer UI.
- Technical and connection data — Such as IP address, network-related signals, timestamps, and diagnostic messages needed to operate signaling, prevent abuse, and troubleshoot reliability.
- Content you choose to send — Files, text, or clipboard content you explicitly transfer. This is processed to complete the transfer (including any short-lived relay or buffering required by the protocol).
We do not require you to create an account to use core transfer features.
2.2 Data stored on your device
The app may store preferences and local data (for example, settings, remembered devices on local networks) using platform storage such as SharedPreferences or equivalent. This stays on your device unless you share it through a transfer.
2.3 When you use our website (etedrop.com)
- Essential cookies / similar technologies — For basic site operation where needed.
- Analytics — We use Google Analytics (Google LLC) on the site, and Baidu Tongji (Baidu) in some deployments or regions. These services may receive IP address, device/browser information, and usage events as described in their respective policies.
- Server logs — Standard web logs (e.g., IP, user agent, request path, time).
3. How we use information
We use the information above to:
- Provide file transfer, sharing, and related features (including signaling and connectivity).
- Operate, secure, and improve our services; detect and mitigate abuse.
- Understand aggregate usage of our website through analytics.
We do not use your data for third-party advertising or for building advertising profiles.
4. Legal bases (EEA/UK users)
Where applicable, we rely on:
- Performance of a contract / steps at your request — To deliver transfers you initiate.
- Legitimate interests — For example, security, fraud prevention, service improvement, and website analytics, balanced against your rights.
- Consent — Where required for optional processing (such as certain analytics or notifications, depending on your settings and jurisdiction).
5. Retention
- Signaling / session state — Kept only as long as needed for an active session or short timeouts (for example, inactive device or session expiry), then removed from our servers.
- File content — Not kept as permanent storage on our servers for standard end-to-end transfer flows; any temporary buffering is short-lived.
- Server and security logs — May be kept for a limited period (for example, days to weeks) for operations and security, unless a longer period is required by law.
- Analytics — Retained according to the analytics provider’s settings and policies.
6. Sharing and processors
We do not sell your personal information.
We share data only with:
- Infrastructure and service providers that host or help run our services (servers, networking, email).
- Analytics providers as described in Section 2.3 (e.g., Google, Baidu).
- Authorities when we believe in good faith that disclosure is required by law or to protect rights, safety, or security.
7. International transfers
If you use EteDrop from outside the country where our servers or vendors operate, your information may be processed in other countries. Where required, we use appropriate safeguards (such as standard contractual clauses) or rely on other permitted mechanisms.
8. Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, restrict, or object to certain processing, or to data portability or withdraw consent. You may also have the right to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority.
To exercise these rights, contact us using the details in Section 14.
9. Security
We use reasonable technical and organizational measures (including encryption in transit where applicable, such as HTTPS and secure real-time channels). No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure.
10. Children’s privacy
EteDrop is not directed at children under 13 (or the minimum age in your jurisdiction). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe we have, contact us and we will take appropriate steps.
11. Permissions (Android)
Our Android app may request permissions needed for core functionality, such as:
- Internet, network state, Wi‑Fi state, and Wi‑Fi multicast — For connectivity and local discovery.
- Storage (read/write/manage external storage, as applicable to your Android version) — To access and save files you choose to send or receive.
- Notifications — For transfer or background activity notices where supported.
- Foreground service — To keep time-sensitive transfer or connectivity tasks reliable when the app is in the background.
We use these permissions only to provide the features you use, not for unrelated advertising.
12. Third-party services and links
Our website or app may reference or link to third-party sites or services. Their practices are governed by their policies, not this one.
13. Changes
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will post the updated version on this page and update the effective date above.
